I've run out of cars to do a search on CL for. I think I'm starting to turn against a BMW only because I'm not even 16 and have had a bad experience with them (That's a story for another time) and I've heard more bad than good about them lately. So, I think I'm gonna go for something else. I have a limit of $5,000 and my 6'3" self has to fit in it (obviously). Anyone have any ideas?

Miiiiaaaaaaata?

I mean it all depends on your taste. What are you partial to in terms of cars?

I'd love to have a Miata, but my dad's friend has one and my head sticks past the top of the windscreen. I was thinking about a 90's Camaro to appease my dad's GM fanaticism.

F Body's are stupid fast, and I do have a personal soft spot for the 3rd gen (my dad had an 87 IROC-Z, so many memories) so I'd say its a decent place to start. One thing to keep in mind is you'll have to be a very discerning shopper to pick out the good from the shit... and yeah, there's a lot of shit out there.

Also, look at Fox bodies, 240's, and literally anything RWD and fun. Anything bigger than a Miata should fit all 6'3" of you without issue.

I was thinking late 3rd gen, there's an ton of them around here, in decent condition, too. I'll probably look into those.

Personal prejudice sticking out: If you want a sleeper, buy the latest-model Buick Roadmaster Wagon (my dream car) that you can. With a small expenditure you can get insane amounts of power out of the V8 stuffed in there. Bonus points if you keep it looking ugly and bone stock. Of course, also bonus points if you paint it matte black (matte black makes everything better).

Other than that, cars I've seen for less than $5000 include:

Datsun 240z

90s convertible BMWs

80s Monte Carlo SS (fun car, T-tops, my dad had one)

El Caminos (less weight on the rear wheels means mad burnouts)

Various Rat Rods (then again, living in Darryl Starbird's hometown that's to be expected)

I even saw a couple modern Nissan z-cars for $5000 or $6000 with no obvious problems.

I have 2 friends taller than yourself, and they both love the 1st gen New Beetles. Turbos are fast, and tons of headroom. I have a Turbo S 6 speed 04 for under 5K with under 100K miles and great grey and black 2 tone leather interior. All service up to date and 6K on the timing belt. As long as you can get over the stigma of owning a beetle that is. Some people hate them but I just see a GTI with extra headroom

An old Monte Carlo would be pretty nice. Most around here have been ruined by either being DONKed or dropped and had custom paint jobs on them. Might look into an El Camino.

Not a bad looking car. I would definitely check it out man. Looks like he pretty much refreshed the entire engine. And z's are just fun cars

Might just have to run that one by my dad. He's not gonna like that it's a Nissan but that's one of the most clean looking Zs I've seen at that price point.

Why wouldn't he like that it's a nissan?
And to help your case learn everything about it so It can help your case in getting it. And it is a sports car but it if you maintain it, it will treat you right

Here ya go.

I don't know if it's your taste/style/whatever, but it's within your budget and probably decently quick. I drive by it three or four times a day on my way to class or work and it looks pretty decent.

He has this weird thing against Japanese car manufacturers. I dunno. I'll have to start doing my research and get some more knowledge on the Z car.

I just looked at that listing! I thought it looked good, and leaves money left over to do some work to it.

I'm not too sure about a Bug.. Just too many girls at my school drive them for me to even have an argument against the whole chick car thing.

Ya that's exactly what I was thinking. Since I drive by it so often I can stop by on my way back from class tomorrow and snag a few more pics for you if you'd like. I've got nothing going on besides work on my Bug so I'd be happy to get some if you want haha

Ah alright. Well, for starters your best bet is to brush up on its history so start with Wikipedia, and then join a 300zx forum. A good workshop manual to get would be a haynes, or the workshop manual from nissan. And learn the website rockauto.com. it is hands down the best site to get new parts at the best prices. Good luck man! And if you get it post it here!
